Unions

Your members aren't disengaged. The system isn't designed for their lives.

A 2026 benchmark survey of 300 union members across Canada found that 57% of non-participants cite structural barriers — shift schedules, geography, family commitments. Not apathy. Converso solves the structural half: every member reached by phone, live and two-way, from wherever they are, within 48 hours of your call.

2026 Union Member Engagement Research

Low engagement isn't an apology problem. It's a participation design problem.

Motion Meetings surveyed 300 union members across English and French Canada in 2026 to understand what actually drives participation. The findings challenge what unions have long assumed about why members don't show up.

Members who attend at least one meeting are four times more likely to describe themselves as actively engaged — 75% among attendees vs. 18% among non-attendees. Attendance is the single strongest predictor of engagement.

0%
In the survey, not a single member who never votes considered themselves strongly engaged. Not one. 79% of never or rarely voters describe themselves as actively disengaged. Voting and engagement are inseparable.

54%
Of non-attending members say they would participate if virtual or hybrid options were available. For more than half of disengaged members, this is a solvable problem — right now.
2026 Union Member Engagement Benchmark Survey — Motion Meetings
41% of your members attended no union meeting last year. Most of them have a reason — not an excuse.
57% of non-participants cite structural barriers: shift work, family commitments, geography. 37% say schedule conflicts are the primary reason. 82% are reached by email only. These aren't attitude problems — they're design problems. A healthcare worker finishing a 10-hour shift doesn't make a 6:30 AGM because the system wasn't designed for her life. Converso is the design fix: every member reached by phone, live and two-way, wherever they are.

We are the fastest path from tentative agreement to every member, on the line.

The research is clear: members who participate are engaged, and members who are engaged vote. The gap is access — and access is a design problem Converso solves. When a tentative agreement lands at 2 a.m., we can have a member town hall live within 48 hours. We call every number on your membership list, put your chief steward and lead negotiator on the line, take live questions from members across every worksite, and deliver a complete event record before the vote closes. In English and in French. 24/7. For Canada's largest unions — and yours.

How we serve unions

Every type of union engagement, fully managed.

From a national ratification vote to a local education town hall — Converso handles every detail so your leadership focuses on the conversation, not the technology.

Ratification Votes

The most time-sensitive event in union life. We mobilize within 48–72 hours of a tentative agreement, call your full membership list, run a live Q&A with your negotiators, and produce a complete auditable vote record. Every ballot captured. Every result documented.

Bargaining Updates

Keep members informed at every stage of negotiations — without pulling anyone off a shift. Telephone town halls bring your lead negotiator directly to members across every worksite, answer live questions, and keep trust high throughout a long bargaining round.

AGMs & Conventions

Annual general meetings and conventions with live delegate voting, real-time Q&A, and full participation for remote members. Convention delegate voting, bylaw amendments, executive elections — all conducted via telephone with a complete event record.

AUPE — Alberta's largest union, and Converso's longest union partnership

The Alberta Union of Provincial Employees represents over 95,000 workers across every sector of Alberta's public service — from healthcare aides to correctional officers, child welfare workers to government administrators. No two members' schedules are alike. No single meeting can reach them all.

Since the beginning of our relationship, AUPE has brought Converso in for dozens of member town halls — bargaining updates, ratification votes, educational sessions, and emergency communications. When a tentative agreement is reached, AUPE knows that Converso can have members on the line within 48 hours, asking direct questions of the bargaining team, before the vote closes.

Every event is documented. Every vote is auditable. Every ratification has landed on time.

"I have never experienced a more effective, productive and straightforward way to communicate with, hear from, and get crucial input from thousands of members at the same time. Our members can ask direct questions of their elected leaders and vote on important issues — a powerful tool for collective voice."

Guy Smith, President
Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE)
★★★★★

"Converso gives our members a real voice in the bargaining process — not just a flyer in their locker or a link to a website. A phone call that reaches them wherever they are, at whatever hour they're working, with a chance to ask a real question. That's member engagement done right."

Susie Proulx-Daigle, President
New Brunswick Union

Nan McFadgen, Regional VP
CUPE Nova Scotia
